BuildingThe New $50 Raised Bed Vegetable Garden “How I built a square foot garden” 2011
I read Mel Bartholomew’s book “All New Square Foot Gardening” So I built this raised bed out of recycled lumber. If you were to build this your self It can be done for fifty dollars give or take. I prefer using reclaimed lumber when ever possible. This project can be done on a weekend or in 8 hours worth of time if you have all the materials when you begin. It took me a few days working on it a little at a time. My future plans are to add one more raised bed besides the current new bed and grow, grow, grow……..This season I plan on doing a few rows in the dirt next to the new bed and try growing a bunch of corn for my birds. They love corn on the cob……. Your soil will cost more then the estimated $50 budget. That can be another $50 bucks depending what you want to do. Read Mel’s book…….

How to Build a Raised Bed Vegetable Garden, Spring 2011 – Timelapse
The audio swap music is the most palatable I could find that fit the length of this video. Each raised bed is an identical 4′x8′ box. The up-hill end is made from 2×6, downhill end is 2×12, and the 8′ sides are made from 2×10 lumber. All of it is untreated so I don’t poison my vegetables with arsenic. For the corner supports/stakes I used 2×3 lumber cut into 1.5-2′ lengths and cut to a point. Total lumber: 8 2x10x8 2 2x12x8 2 2x6x8 2 2x3x8 On a side note, my dog is better than your dog. Hope you enjoy!
